Goal: Visualizing school demographic data within the Chicago Public School (CPS) system (2014-2019).
Data: Age, population, and race / ethnicity data combined with school, network, and location data over the given five-year time period.
Map: The CPS system segregated by zip code.
Profile and comparisons: View demographic data for individual schools, or compare same data for multiple schools.
Bubble chart: Broad overview of all schools in the CPS system with accompanied network view.
Network sort: Aligned sort of networks in the CPS system. Sorting by mean will sort descending (highest on top).
Stacked bar chart: An exploded view of all high schools within the system. Clicking a demographic in the legend sorts data by that demographic. Clicking an individual school opens its profile. Hold [SHIFT + Click] to compare multiple schools.
Goal: Visualization of school demographic data within the Chicago Public School (CPS) system that will be used by the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Minority Affairs for recruitment purposes. The project is built as a modern web application and conveys spatio-temporal demographic data between schools within the CPS system, with a specific focus on high schools. Demographic data (age, population, and race / ethnicity) is combined with school, network, and location data over a five-year time period (2014-2019). The project focus is to aid in the decision-making process for resources delegation for recruitment of underrepresented students within the Chicago region.
This data-driven visualization application was created as part of the Visual Data Science course (CS594, Fall 2018) at the University of Illinois at Chicago on behalf of the Department of Minority Affairs at UIC.
